5 Tips to Help You Stick to Your Exercise Plan

  1. Find an ideal time for working out and stick to it. One of the biggest reasons why people don’t stick to their exercise plans is because they interfere with other plans. Whether it’s Monday Night Football, weekend outings, or any other event that may get in the way of your workout schedule, you want to make sure that you think about these plans ahead of time. Find a day (or two) and a time in the week when there’s not much going on – all year long – and if spur of the moment plans come along, always force yourself to schedule another time in the week – before you allow yourself to skip your workout.
  2. Put together a strongfitness program. If you really want to see progress, you’re going to have to come up with a program that works for you. Structure is key when it comes to finding consistency. Come up with an order of exercises, or an order in which you use the different machines at Orangetheory Fitness, or whichever gym you frequent. Stick to this routine so that you can ensure that you got a full and rigorous workout each time.
  3. Set goals for yourself and track them. There’s nothing more motivating than a serious goal. Whether that goal is to run a certain distance within a certain amount of time, to lift a certain amount of weight, or to do a certain number of pull-ups, you want to be sure that you set goals for yourself. These goals will be important if you have a certain vision for how you want your exercise plan to go. If you don’t have goals to meet, how will you meet them? It’s simple and obvious concept, but it is important to think about if you want to stick to your fitness program.
  4. Find a great workout buddy that you can count on. When it comes down to it, it is a lot easier to do something if you have a friend with you. Have you ever noticed that things are a lot easier when you have a buddy? Not only will you have the social aspect of going to the gym with someone, you will also have someone to cheer you on or point you in a more positive direction when you are feeling down about your exercise plan. Plus, you and your buddy can work together to create certain goals and you can go out after your workout to talk about what went well and what didn’t. This is crucial if you want someone to commiserate with.
  5. Get yourself a trainer. The truth of the matter is that a trainer will be able to help streamline your workout. If you have a special muscle group that you want build or if you have an idea for how you want to look, a trainer will be able to shape and mold you into what you want to look like. In the end, it will be hard to stick to your exercise plan without a trainer.
